2011 Bay Area Senior Games

Saturday, 3/26/11
Avery Aquatic Center, Stanford University

Way to go MVM!

A very cold weekend kept the participation levels at both events low.  On Saturday, it was raining heavily, and the awnings we were sheltering under weren’t exactly waterproof.  As the competition went on, there were more and more empty lanes, and it was a hardy few that made it all the way through the 500s and the 200 IMs to end the day.  The wages of perseverance were great, though.  Coach Chris, a newly minted Senior, came home with one gold, three silvers and a 4th place finish (which resulted in two new Team Records), along with qualifying times for the 2012 National Senior Games.  Also, for those who couldn’t stand the weather, another edition of California Senior Games is in the offing.  Wine Country Senior Games are shaping up, tentatively slated for June 2-5, 2011 in Santa Rosa.  Surely, the weather will be better by then.  The website is not yet active, but keep your eyes open.  As they say on the Tee shirt, “The competition never ends.”  Racing on the high side of 50 is a lot of fun without all those pesky youngsters around to distract us.
